Fire Control received a call from the Ambulance service informing us of a road traffic collision with persons still trapped inside one of the vehicles. We immediately sent two fire engines from Somerton and Street, and specialist rescue tender from Glastonbury to the scene. When the fire crews arrived at the scene they found one car and one van involved in the collision, with a male occupant still within the van. They immediately set to work stabilising the van and making plans to extricate the casualty. Access was gained through the rear of the van and the male removed using a spinal board. The vehicles were removed off the main highway to a safer place, and crews ensured that the scene and vehicles were safe before leaving the incident in that hands of the Police and Ambulance services.
